Regarding the preventive actions for the novel coronavirus

We, the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ), strive to be a research institute open to the public. Some of the facilities are open to the public to the extent that it does not interfere with research activities. In addition to the latest observational instruments, you can also see historical observational instruments. You can feel the history of astronomical observations connecting the past to the present.

The headquarters of NAOJ is located in Mitaka Campus in Mitaka, Tokyo. As a research institute open to the public, NAOJ hosts regular events and an annual open house as part of promoting Japanese astronomy research.

Domestic and International Branches

NAOJ Mizusawa Here you can tour the antennas and Kimura Memorial House, as well as the adjacent Oshu Space Science Center.
NAOJ Nobeyama Here you can see the giant Nobeyama 45-m Radio Telescope up close.
Okayama Astrophysical Observatory Here you can see the 188-cm Reflector Telescope, the largest telescope in Japan.
Ishigakijima Astronomical Observatory Here you can attend 4D2U screenings and stargazing parties conducted with the MURIKABUSHI Telescope, the largest telescope in the Kyushu/Okinawa region.
6 VLBI Stations You can view the exteriors of the antennas at the 6 stations hosting VLBI antennas.
Subaru Telescope The Subaru Telescope is located on the summit of Maunakea on the Island of Hawai`i. Facility tours are not available.
ALMA (Operations Support Facility) The ALMA Operations Support Facility located at 2900 m elevation is accepting public tours.
