Library
A Library That Collects Material on Astronomy
The NAOJ library, as a hub library for astronomy research in Japan, collects, catalogs, and preserves books, magazines, audiovisual materials, microfilm, and other resources on astronomy, space science, and related fields. The collection consists primarily of academic literature, but also contains books for general readers. Its coverage ranges from 17th-century (Edo Era) documents to present-day academic journals.
The reading rooms are located on the first and second floors of the South Building, where users can browse the materials in a quiet environment. The primary users are NAOJ staff, collaborators, and students. But on weekdays (excluding lunch hour), the library is also open to all members of other research institutions, as well as the general public.
