As the central library dedicated to astronomy in Japan, this library collects / organizes / stores books, magazine, audiovisual materials, microfilm and so on covering astronomy, space science and related fields. The focus is on specialized books, but there are also books for the public. These cover a wide span of time, from the latest academic journals to antique documents from the Edo era.
The reading rooms are on the South Building. You can leisurely read the materials in these quiet rooms. The main users are members of NAOJ, joint researchers, students, etc., but it is open to the members of other institute and the public on weekdays (excluding lunch time).

|Attention||Please enter via the South Building’s entrance for the public. At the counter, please complete the procedures to gain entrance. Please note that you cannot enter the library from the front entrance of the South Building.|
