Temporary Closure of NAOJ Mitaka Campus Main Gate and Entry via Rear Gate
Updated on March 26, 2025: The traffic restrictions due to construction will be lifted at 12:00 AM on March 31, 2025. With the removal of the road closure, the main gate will be accessible from March 31 onward. The guard house at the main gate will handle visitor reception, vehicle entry, and key handovers.
From January 8 until March 30, 2025 (Scheduled), the Main Gate of NAOJ Mitaka Campus will be closed due to construction work in the campus. During this time, we ask that all guests who come to NAOJ on foot, bicycle, car, etc. enter via the Rear Gate.
The nearest bus stop to the Rear Gate is “Tenmondai-ura.” Guests using public buses should please disembark at “Tenmondai-ura.”
A Temporary Guard House has been established approximately 100 m inside the Rear Gate. Please complete the necessary registration procedures at the Temporary Guard House. Paid parking is available for general visitors (30 cars can be parked). Guests using the paid parking should complete the entry procedures after parking.
Please note, construction will restrict entry to some areas of the campus.

Requests to General Guests:
- Guests arriving on foot or bicycle: Please enter via the Rear Gate. Please park bicycles in the bicycle parking provided next to the Temporary Guard House.
- Guests arriving by public buses: Please disembark at the “Tenmondai-ura” bus stop and enter via the Rear Gate.
- Guests arriving by car: After entering via the Rear Gate, please stop in the paid parking.
- Please register at the Temporary Guard House.
Requests Regarding Chartered Buses:
- As a general rule, chartered buses will not be allowed during the construction period (scheduled to last until March 30, 2025).
- If there are only one or two chartered buses, it is possible for passengers to disembark (and embark) in the bus turn-around space provided inside the Rear Gate. Please refrain from long stops in the bus turn-around space.
- If you wish to use the bus turn-around space for disembarking and embarking, please state so clearly in the Remarks (備考) column of the tour application form.
