Netherlands Delegation on Astronomical Instruments Visits NAOJ Mitaka Campus

On June 26, 2024, the Netherlands Delegation on Astronomical Instruments visited NAOJ Mitaka Campus.

The delegation received an overview of NAOJ’s operations from NAOJ Director General Doi. Then, NOVA Executive Director Rodenhuis gave an overview of the projects ASTRON, SRON, NOVA, TU Delft, RRL, TNO, and JPE (note).

After that, the delegation visited facilities within the NAOJ campus, where they observed the ultra-precision machining of an ALMA receiver and other instrument parts and were briefed on the mirror segments that make up the primary mirror of TMT; the data archiving system that stores astronomical data and makes it available to the world; and the analysis computer environment used in research.
