NAOJ Science Roadmap

The National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ) is currently formulating its Science Roadmap (SRM), with the goal of completing it in FY2025, aiming for its implementation during the 5th Medium-Term Objective Period (FY2028-2033). This page reports on the activities conducted as part of this process.

Town Meeting on the NAOJ Science Roadmap Report (Feb 18)  

The SRM report, whose first draft was introduced at last December's Future Planning Symposium, is now nearing completion. We will hold a town meeting to present its contents, facilitate discussion, and gather feedback:
- Wednesday, February 18, 2026, 12:00-14:00 (JST)
via Zoom. (The session will be recorded and made available to those who cannot attend.)

Second Town Meeting Held in Two Sessions

We held the second town meeting in two sessions via Zoom to report on the current status of the Science Roadmap development and the subsequent implementation planning process.

A total of 43 proposals were submitted to the NAOJ Science Roadmap.

We invited groups with future plans they wish to propose for inclusion in the NAOJ Science Roadmap to submit a Letter of Intent (LOI). The submission period was from September 17 to October 18, 2024 (JST).
As a result, we received 43 proposals. We sincerely thank all the groups who submitted proposals for their cooperation.

First Town Meeting Held in Two Sessions

We held the first town meeting in two sessions via zoom to provide detailed explanations about NAOJ’s future planning process:

- Monday, September 9, 2024, 12:00-13:00.
