Do massive stars also form in gas disks?
A team from the NAOJ’s VERA project discovered a hot circumstellar disk around a massive protostar.
The team used ALMA and VERA to observe a radio source called Source I in Orion KL. ALMA detected radio signals from hot water vapor at 3000 degrees Celesius with high angular resolution.
Combining this data with the data taken by VERA, the team confirmed that the hot gas containing water vapor is actually a circumstellar disk around Source I.
