The headquarters of the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ) is at the Mitaka Campus in Mitaka-City, Tokyo. Mitaka Campus hosts astronomy research activities, serving not only as the base of operations for NAOJ’s domestic and international observations, but also as the center of Japanese astronomy.
The forested area near the center of this picture is Mitaka Campus. This abundant natural environment is preserved to maintain good conditions for astronomical observations. Every day, about 200 staff members (researchers, technicians, office managers, etc.) strive so that astronomical research can progress.
