A waxing crescent moon illuminates ALMA (Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array) antennas. In the center of the picture is the 12-meter-diameter antenna developed by Japan. The starry sky photographed at 5000 meters elevation is very clear even near the horizon. The Southern Cross is lying on its side in the right-center of this picture. Above that, the alpha and beta stars (two brightest stars) in the constellation Centaurus can be seen clearly. The green glow lighting up the antenna is an indicator light, showing that it is safe to approach the antenna.
