The observatory grounds hold the blooming cherry blossoms and the VERA 20 m radio telescope.
In 2014, the cherry trees started blooming earlier than usual. They reached full bloom around April 22. The Mizusawa VLBI observatory is located to the west of Mizusawa Park, a location famous for its beautiful cherry blossoms in Oshu City. There are over 60 cherry trees in the Mizusawa VLBI Observatory, including some 50 year old trees with wonderful boughs of flowers.
Among those who know about it, this scenic spot hidden by the cherry blossoms is cherished as a place where you can quietly enjoy the cherry blossoms.
