An Airplane Flying in front of the Sun

The Sunspot Telescope at Mitaka Campus happened by chance to capture this image of an airplane passing in front of the Sun. Compared with a picture taken at a different time on the same day you can see that atmospheric turbulence caused by the airplane’s passing blurred the sunspots. The Solar Observatory has been observing sunspots since 1918 but it is rare to snap this kind of picture.
