The Okayama Astrophysical Observatory's 188cm reflector telescope has three distinct observational instruments. HIDES produces high resolution spectra of the visible light from celestial objects. ISLE can capture images and spectra in infrared light. KOOLS can capture images and spectra in visible light. Out of these three choices, observers choose the observational instrument that best suits their research to conduct observations.
This video shows an instrument exchange from HIDES to KOOLS. Researchers and technicians at Okayama Astrophysical Observatory conduct instrument exchanges like this one several times each month.
