Projects
The National Astronomical Observatory of Japan has been completely reorganized to incorporate the project system in system in accordance with the rearrangement of the inter-university research institutes on April 1, 2004.
We redefined each research unit as observatories/centers carrying out projects with specific objectives and terms. The aims of introducing the project scheme are to specify the research objectives and to attempt further activation.
The introduced project system will encourage sharing of resources throughtout the entire observatory, define the responsibility and capability of project leaders and staff, and encourage research plans which are abundant in research objectives by improving their clarity and independence. Acting on the intentions of the project system, we have reformed the center and newly established research divisions.
